Yesterday, New Media Insight Group announced that the Parent Teacher Organization (NYSEARCA:PTO) of the Desert Trails Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona, has agreed to use the company's branded mCards to raise funds for school activities beginning in 2014.
The school will receive 1.5% of purchases made with the mCards, in addition to any donations from selected merchants that accept the mobile payment solution.
The New Media mCard is one of the only mobile payment solutions on the market that doesn't require specialized hardware. Any merchant who currently accepts MasterCard can accept mCards with just a simple sign-up process.
The PTO (and any other non-profit organization) can collect and analyze the mCard data, which can then be used to customize their programs and maximize their potential benefits. The company estimates that Desert Trails' PTO could generate an additional $20,000 per year for the school through the use of mCards.
"Every school in the United States faces challenges with growing their fundraising programs and finding new sources of revenue," said Michael Palethrope, New Media's CEO. "mCards address these issues, allowing supporters to donate just by making everyday purchases while also helping local merchants by creating loyalty programs that drive repeat customers."
