London-based ETF Securities, the ETF issuer behind four U.S.-listed ETFs backed by physical commodities, said it plans to list more commodities-related ETFs in the U.S. ETF Securities currently issues ETFs that are backed by physical holdings of gold, palladium, platinum and silver that have a combined $1.3 billion in asssets.

The company has $17 billion in assets under management through all of its ETF offerings, which include more exotic commodities such as cocoa, coffee, corn, hogs and livestock. ETF Securities did not say exactly what commodities its new ETFs will focus on, but it is likely that they will use futures contracts and not physical holdings to accomplish their investment objectives.

For investors willing to take on a little more risk, a coffee or lean hogs or lumber ETF isn't a bad idea, but ETF Securities' current offerings are also quality offerings. Our preference is for the ETF Securities Physical Palladium Shares (NYSE: PALL). Palladium, like platinum, is used to make catalytic converters for cars, but palladium is cheaper.

With China's demand for cars soaring, we think PALL one way to play that trend and palladium hit a two-year high on Monday. PALL is up almost seven percent in the past week.
