IMAX: Christmas Carol vs the greatest performing Imax movie, The Polar Express

|Includes: IMAX Corporation (IMAX)

Headlines for Imax:
Disney's A Christmas Carol: An IMAX 3D Experience Crosses $20 Million Mark.

The IMAX release grossed $3.3 million from 182 IMAX theatres domestically during the weekend from November 27 through November 29, 2009.  That represents $18,132 per screen.  Pretty good for a holiday weekend.

21% of the film's total domestic fourth-weekend gross of $15.9 million on approximately 3% of the screens.   Tremendous support from Imax customers.

How does this compare to the all time greatest performing Imax movie, The Polar Express?

Playing on 77 screens around the world, the film grossed an estimated $2.53 million over the three-day period from Friday, December 10 through Sunday, December 12.  That represents $32,857 per screen for the weekend.

So, $32,857 for Tom Hanks and the Polar Express vs. $18,132 for Jim Carey and The Christmas Carol.  Even though the Christmas Carol has improved its gross revenue by 50% over the past weekend, it has a ways to go before it can catch The Polar Express Train.
