  • The technology sector remains the largest sector in the S&P 500 despite falling 0.2 percentage points from 19.9% to 19.7% in the month of March.
  • In March, the weight of the financial sector increased the most of all major sectors. The sectors share of the index increased by 0.2 percentage points from 16.0% to 16.2%.
  • The energy, consumer staples and materials sectors saw their share of the index fall in the month of March. All three sectors weights fell by approximately 0.1 percentage points.
  • Conversely, the health care, financial and consumer discretionary sectors all increased their share in the index by approximately 0.1 percentage points.
  • The utilities and telecommunications sectors remain the smallest sectors in the S&P 500. Both sectors weights were virtually unchanged on the month. As of 3/31/2015, the utilities and telecommunications sectors represented 3.0% and 2.3% of the index, respectively.
