Getting started with this blog

I hope to use this blog to share some of my thoughts about investing and the markets, as well as for posts that I will submit to Seeking Alpha for publication.

A few general points to start out with:

I am not licensed as an investment advisor in any jurisdiction. Therefore anything that I write is to be taken as my opinion only and not as professional investment advice.

Besides the legalistic disclaimer above, it is my strong belief that everyone should be responsible for his own investments. You need to understand what you are investing in, know why you are investing in it and have a goal that you expect this investment to achieve. If not, you are just playing the lottery, which we all know is a losing proposition.

In the end it’s your money and any gain or loss is yours. Of course, some of the gains will probably be taken by the government as taxes. It is also your responsibility to take this into account.

One of the causes of the financial mess that we are now in was the repackaging and reselling of investments until the final holders of these investments had no idea what they actually owned. In some cases there was outright fraud involved, and those committing fraud should be prosecuted, but in most cases the problem was gross negligence on the part of the purchasers of these investments.

Therefore, when I discuss an investment I will explain why I think that this is a good investment and what investment goal it could accomplish. It is each investor’s responsibility to do further research and make his or her final investment decision.

In the immortal words of Forest Gump, “That’s all I have to say about that”.
