New Jersey 1, Goldman Sachs 0

Finally, Goldman Sachs (or at least one of its main "catspaws"), goes down to defeat. Yesterday, New Jersey residents, yours truly among them, voted to depose Goldman's "viceroy," Jon Corzine, as governor. Actually, Corzine was more like a "roy"(al), i.e. CEO, while at Goldman itself.

Corzine began his New Jersey career by buying a Senate seat for $62 million in 2003. In 2003, he left his wife and took up with a (female) union leader he would have to negotiate with later as governor. Talk about pillow talk.

His wife's comment about his 2005 divorce and gubernatorial campaign was

"he let his family down, and he'll probably let New Jersey down, too." (source: wikipedia, well known to New Jersey residents.) The result was an unsuccessful term with both taxes and budget deficits ballooning.

The winner was Republican Chris Christie. New Jersey had success with another Republican governor named Christie (Whitman), and hopefully (Chris) Christie will do the same. Welcome aboard, sir.
