Under Armour Rising

|Includes: Under Armour, Inc. (UAA)

Tim Ebert

Under Armour (NYSE-UA) is making big strides in in the apparel clothing industry and is closing in on taking down the industry leader Nike. Part of the reason that this is happening is because of their signing of two of the most dominate athletes in their sport today. Stephen Curry the NBA League MVP and Jordan Spieth who is currently ranked number two in the world of golf. Under Armour's golf industry is relatively small compared to other golf companies, Spieth and his dominance as of late can really help grow the company's golf brand. With these two major signings having such a big impact on the brand with a few more signings of major athletes Under Armour could dethrone Nike as the Industry leader.

According to Under Armour has a Beta of .02 which means that it is less volatile than the market of the apparel clothing industry. This low beta means that Under Armour does not have a large deviation from the market. While this means that the stock presents less risk it also provides less reward. Under Armour has a earning per share of .94 compared to Nike's 3.70, although this does not look very good Under Armour is a much younger company and it is rising with the signing of these new stars . Stephen Curry the point guard for the Golden State Warriors was named the MVP of the league this year, led his team its first title in 40 years, and is one of the NBA biggest stars right now. According to Curry over took LeBron James as the most popular jersey and also received the most votes for the NBA All-Star game this year. This is big for Under Armour because they have Curry signed to a shoe deal and the Curry ones are currently on the market, which have been selling out since winning the championship. Curry is only 27 and is entering his prime as an NBA player, he is already considered one the greatest shooters in NBA history and with a few more titles Under Armour is hoping that Curry turns into the next Michael Jordan. Under Armour's other superstar athlete is Jordan Spieth who is only 21 years old and is already ranked number two in the world, this year he has already one two majors and came very close to winning a third. Spieth is arguably golfs biggest star right now and in the world of golf he could be for a very long time, which is very good for Under Armour that just signed him to a long term deal. Under Armour is new to the golf game but their golf sales have risen about 50% since Spieth won the Masters according to Also after Spieth won the U.S. Open the new cleat he was wearing the, UA Drive One, sold out. Spieth is the most dominate golfer on tour right now and shows no signs of slowing down which is very good for Under Armour which is trying to grow its new golf brand and brand in general.
