American Trade Protectionism Rising.

President Obama imposed punitive tariffs Friday, against the import of all car and light truck tires coming from China.
Many of the United States trading partners say that the Americans talk tough against protectionism only when it's own industries are not threatened.

As reported in China View News

"The American government has to draw a lesson from the Great Depression when it [USA] imposed heavy import tariffs, a move that triggered a global trade war and exacerbated the crises."

Isn't this a little like 'biting the hand that feeds you'? Or is it more in the realm of poking the 'Dragon' with a pointed stick? This could very well escalate and get out of hand, in which case the US would come out the worse for it when China holds all the key cards.
