CGTS DAILY FOR THURSDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2009

Clark's Gate Timing System
Thursday 17 September 2009

If the American people ever allow the banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless.... The issuing power of money should be taken from the banks and restored to Congress and the people to whom it belongs. I sincerely believe the banking institutions (having the issuing power of money) are more dangerous to liberty than standing armies. My zeal against these institutions was so warm and open at the establishment of the Bank of the United States (Hamilton's foreign system), that I was derided as a maniac by the tribe of bank mongers who were seeking to filch from the public.
Thomas Jefferson

INDEX VIEW

It looks highly likely the troubled index pictures (Banking Index, Nikkei) will right themselves and continue the journey upward.  Nothing seems to be able to bring selling in to the market.  That's what a printing press and a committed Fed Chairman can do -- when his goal is to protect the banking system.

BKX has turned back up and is right at overhead resistance again.  Once it takes out this resistance, it is positive again for another leg up.

Nikkei is turning its trend back up, or is at least trying to.  It still has a way to go before accomplishing this.

Shanghai: still at overhead resistance; but the selling implied by the decline of buyer strength yesterday was reverse back up today: spike or sustained buying?  Time will tell.  But with the general market strength, momentum seems to be with more gains.

KEY: M2F ALT = short-term momentum: above 70 = overbought; below 30 = oversold; 'TRADE" = current position using M4 Sum Plus Trade System.  "TREND" = short-term trend DIRECTION: above 0 is positive; below 0 is negative.  "M4 SP+" = issues with at least 2 consecutive days of positive M4 Sum Plus will register a 1.  'M4SP -" = issues with at least 2 consecutive days of negative M4 Sum Plus will register a 1M4 Sum Plus is a VERY short-term momentum indicator.  "INT MOM" = M5 Average Sum Plus, which is an intermediate-term momentum indicator: 1 is positive; -1 is negative.  "LTERM MOM" = MA 40 Sum Plus, which is a long-term momentum indicator: +1 is positive; -1 is negative.

TODAY'S TRADES

We closed 12 positions today, 10 winners.  New long positions in Nike, AMAT, Johnson and Johnson, Japan Fund, UNH; short in DMM, Bearish Housing Stock ETF.

We have found that our M5 10 Trading System works about as well with the traditional long- and intermediate-term trend support (our M5 10 Trading System) as with only long-term support (see M5 10 Long-Trend below)...so we are trading both Systems.  Each day, some entry signals are missed because the intermediate-term trend changes the day after a buy signal is given.  Looking at this second trading system is an attempt to catch those issues which turn IT-Trend positive a day late for our system.  Of the two, the M5 10 Trading System is probably the safest.  Both return accuracy of about 90%.
