Apple - I'm Not Happy With Service.  Is This Bearish Long Term?

Summary

Apple has history of outstanding service.

The charging port on my late 2016 iphone SE charges but does not connect to computers anymore.

In the store it worked with a 30 pin to lightning dongle and adapter.

The dongle + adapter did not work at home.

Apple says will replace for $269 - I'm not happy.

As above.  

I would think Apple would offer a better solution.  I'm tempted to buy a Samsung.  

Why invest so much money if just after warranty it goes bad and can't be fixed.   Doesn't seem fair.  Waiting to hear more reports and maybe it'll be a service advisory or recall.

I don't want to use iCloud.

Is this a top for Apple if I'm tempted to switch our whole family going forward from Apple based on this lousy customer service.

This is not a joke.
