Mali focused Compass Gold Corporation (TSXV: CVB) has appointed the experienced Ian Spence as Chief Executive Officer and President.
Compass Gold holds a 100% interest in four gold exploration permits in southern Mali, as well as holding applications over a further four areas covering an aggregate of 1138 square kilometres.
Spence played an instrumental role in recognizing the early potential of the West African gold assets of Perseus Mining (TSXV: PRU, ASX: PRU) including a recommendation at that time to the board of Montagu Stockbrokers to undertake a A$3.7 million IPO of Perseus.
Spence continued his involvement and support for Perseus through the ASX listing process and announcements on early milestone achievements and provided market and analytical support for the early capital raisings.
Today Perseus has a market capitalisation of over than $1 billion.
Compass Gold is also set to pursue an ASX listing.
James Henderson, chairman and CEO, commented: "We are delighted to have attracted a high-calibre individual of Ian's credentials to join the management team, bringing with him a wealth of international exploration, resource development, mining, and senior management experience in addition to having a strong capital markets background,"
Spence holds a Master of Science in Mineral Exploration and Mining Geology and a MBA and brings with him more than 20 years' experience in geology and capital markets sectors, and comes direct from a Senior Mining Analyst Role at Canaccord Genuity Australia.
Spence has been a shareholder of Compass Gold since February 2011.
