Mawson Resources Brings On New VP Of Exploration To Focus On Nordic Region

Mawson Resources (TSE:MAW) (OTCPK:MWSNF) has appointed Nick Cook as the new VP of exploration as the company works to advance its Rajapalot project in Northern Finland.

Cook has more than 18 years of experience in exploration and exploration-focused research geology. For the last two years, he has been an exploration consultant to a variety of companies, Mawson noted, while concentrating previously on project generation and exploration of gold and base metal properties.

Terry Lees, who previously held Cook's position at Mawson, will move to the role of principal geologist, with particular focus of searching for new gold and copper properties in Sweden.

President and CEO of Mawson, Michael Hudson, commented: "Dr Cook will be based in Finland to oversee the company's exploration activities in the Nordic Region. He brings many of years of exploration and academic experience and will be a huge addition to an already experienced exploration team."

Last month, Mawson discovered further gold mineralization at the Rajapalot project in Northern Finland, with grab samples returning up to 1,520 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.

The miner said that mineralization was discovered within an area of four square kilometres at Rajapalot, located eight kilometres east of the initial Rompas gold discovery.

The campaign, which started in December, forms the major part of a C$3.2 million company-wide 2013 winter exploration program through to the end of June this year.

The program consists of 6,000 metres of diamond drilling at the North Rompas, South Rompas and Rajapalot project areas, as well as an 827 line kilometre airborne geophysical survey at Rajapalot, and 30 line kilometres of electro-magnetic and 48 line kilometres of magnetic ground-based geophysical measurements.

Mawson Resources has precious and base metal interests in Finland and Sweden. The company's flagship property is the Rompas gold project in Finland.

The company in October obtained legal rights to 100 per cent of the core Rompas claims, allowing it to drill test the Rompas and Rajapalot gold discoveries outside Natura 2000 areas.
