Empire Oil and Gas (ASX: EGO) has received approval from Western Australia's Department of Mines and Petroleum to record the balance of its 80 square kilometre Wannamal 3D Heliseismic Survey within the Boonanarring Nature Reserve.
The approval from the department's Environmental Division follows approval provided on 18 April 2013 to record the survey within private land.
Seismic coverage in the Boonanarring Reserve is required to give good multi fold seismic data on the Gingin Gas Field Area and the Wannamal and Wannamal Deep Prospect.
The survey is advanced with 50% of the drill holes completed, together with charges.
The recording crew from Terrex Seismic will commence recording within the next 10 days with 6,409 source and receiver line locations, using state of the art cableless geophones, called Zland Sensor Nodal System.
Wannamal 3D Survey
This is the first Heliseismic Survey of this size recorded in the Perth Basin and is designed to delineate the Gingin 4 (Deep), Gingin 5 (Downthrown) and Wannamal and Wannamal Deep drilling prospects along the Gingin Gas Field Area.
There are three helicopters onsite, with 12 heliportable drilling rigs, one tractor mounted rig and other associated heliseismic equipment.
This type of Heliseismic Survey has been designed to have a small "footprint" on both landowners' property and the Boonanarring Reserve, an objective that has been achieved.
New Zealand-based contractors Webster Drilling and the helicopter crew of 40 are all specialists in Heliseismic and are housed onsite in a dedicated seismic camp.
