Alexium International Group (ASX: AJX, AX: AJX, OTC QX: AXXIY) is now rapidly advancing the commercial roll-out of its flame retardant textile treatments to industrial partners with the expansion of its technical team.
The company has had to broaden its team in response to increased commercial interest in its patented reactive surface technology (NYSE:RST) - a "green" process that can apply durable nanoscopic polymeric coatings to numerous materials.
Alexium has appointed David Lambert as a key technical member of its development team and is also in the process of hiring additional laboratory support.
Lambert is a chemist with nearly 30 years experience in the supervision, design, development, manufacturing, product stewardship, application, and testing of products.
He served in the U.S. military for over 20 years and is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with vast supervisory experience in Chemical Corps, Military Police and Air Defense.
Bob Brookins, chief technology officer of Alexium, commented on the appointment:
"David Lambert has extensive formulations experience with both water-borne and solvent-borne formularies including elastomers, auxiliaries, dyes, coatings, and formulated products for a variety of applications.
"Lambert will also add in-plant trial experience, customer support, and process development experience."
Earlier this year, Alexium signed a letter of intent with Duro Textiles to licence Alexium's flame retardant nylon treatment in a lucrative licensing deal in the North American market.
Duro Textiles is one of the largest dyers, printers, finishers and distributors of textile products in the United States.
The company's military products range from light to heavy weight fabrics used in ultra-lightweight breathable ponchos, tents, sleep systems, physical training uniforms and ballistic nylon tactical outerwear.
Alexium is aiming to address demand from the U.S. military, which currently has 1.4 million soldiers serving on active duty and 800,000 soldiers on reserve duty, as well as commercial customers in the U.S. and abroad.
The company anticipates a combined market demand of at least 4 million linear yards per year, with high profit margin potential.
Alexium and Duro are currently finalising the formal agreement to launch a number of new fire retardant nylon fabrics in the next 12 months.
