Elementos (ASX: ELT) is extending the copper mineralisation at its Tamaya Project in central Chile through sampling, which has uncovered two new vein discoveries and high grades of up to 3.83% copper mineralisation.
Demonstrating the widespread nature of the deposit, Elementos has now identified copper mineralisation over a 6 by 3 kilometres area.
The two new targets, Lecaros and Tortolas, have been identified in the south of the Tamaya property, with potential for bulk tonnage mineralisation.
Lecaros forms the north-south trending southern section of the Tamaya ridge. The 2 metre wide structure, exposed over 200 metres length, includes grades of up to 2.66% copper and 0.43 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.
Reconnaissance mapping and sampling at Tortolas, located in the southeast of the property, has identified three parallel north trending structures along a low ridge within an area of 700 by 500 metres.
This prospect has potential for large volumes of low-grade mineralisation. To date, sampling at Tortolas has tested only one of the three structures.
The structure is 12 metres thick by 150 metres long, with consistent grades of up to 0.87% copper and 0.49g/t gold. This structure can be traced in discontinuous outcrops for over 600 metres.
Meanwhile, five samples from the northern section of the central ridge successfully extended the high-grade copper mineralisation from the central zone 1 kilometre to the north, partially closing the gap between the central zone and the recently identified northern extension.
Representative and selective sampling intersected copper values up to 3.1% and 0.4g/t gold
Elementos is currently focusing on defining drill targets for Tamaya, with drilling scheduled for the September quarter.
Detailed channel sampling and localised fine-scale mapping programs are underway over the principle targets identified to date.
Earlier this year Elementos secured an option to earn a 50% interest in the Tamaya Project, which is strategically located in a major copper-gold district hosting the Andacollo, El Espino, Tres Valles, and Punitaqui deposits.
Historical production at Tamaya is reported to be 2 million tonnes at 12% copper, with Elementos having identified the potential for large volumes of lower grade material.
Elementos' sampling and mapping program is concentrated on the main Tamaya structural trend that was the primary focus of historic mining activity.
