Hey, I found the V!

|Includes: SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF (SPY), USO

If the economy is just a way to get oil and convert it into widgets and services, then the price of the S&P 500 in Oil should tell us something about how efficient this conversion is.  So SPY/USO represents the number of barrels of oil to buy (1/5) share of the S&P 500.  When this ratio is high, we are efficiently getting the oil, turning it into widgets and services, and getting them to the consumer.  When the ratio is low, we are not very efficient (for whatever reason).

But the real interesting part is when you look at the chart.

Three Years of Price of 1/5 Share of S&P500 in Barrels of Oil

The good news: We have a V-shaped recovery!
The bad news: It's over.
