With many comments from various advisors that people are not saving like they should I have one simple rule.  ITS NOT HOW MUCH MONEY YOU MAKE BUT IT IS HOW MUCH MONEY YOU SAVE.  This leads to successful retirement when the time comes.  Pay yourself first.  Not to say don't pay your bills but budget for them so you are not left short and have to borrow.  I have followed this rule for several years and I can proudly say I retired from my job at 59 years old with a portfolio of 1,000,000.  I have a good pension it could be more but that's another story.  Social Security helps and then there is my investment income from my portfolio.  So you see, savings if the name of the game.  And the earlier you start the more you will have and the happier you will be.  Good Luck
