At primary stage of work-life I was a professional web developer and designer but now I am a passionate SEO expert also. Day and night I dream of one thing, how to bring the site I work on to the very top of search engine results! I am Jack Andrews, a guy who not only dream but holds the potential to turn dreams into reality.

SEO needs no special foreword as the people who are visiting the internet are well aware of it. And those who are aware of SEO are also well aware of link building process. Apart from all the other SEO techniques link building is one of the most demanding ones. We all know that effective, proper and high quality links can create much visibility to your website. The more number of inbound links your site gets the better for your website. But do you know what pitfalls link building has? If not, then let us take a look at them.

Just submitting links anywhere is not good. Your goal must be to achieve as many quality backlinks as you can. Submitting links of your website to irrelevant websites is not good. It may cause you harm rather than benefit. Try to post your links to high PR websites, blogs or forums that has some link to your business product or services.

Secondly, another thing that must be kept in mind is to get links from those sites that help the search engines to follow your site. You will sometimes find out that Google ignores those links that have a 'no follow' tag associated with it. The 'no follow' tag means that you are telling the search engines to overlook those links. You work so hard to get backlinks and does it make any sense when you tell Google yourself to ignore them?

There are many small scale farms which do not hire SEO experts but carry on their task of submitting links to the various websites with the help of inexperienced workers. They naturally are not acquainted with the process of link submission and they post the links to whichever directory they choose to, without even thinking about the right places for submission.

Broken link must be avoided at any cost. Backlinks from websites with bad reputation is treated as one of the bad blackhat SEO techniques.

Previously buying and selling of links was possible. The website owners with ample amount of money could easily buy links and earn a better position in the search engines. But now this process is not practiced anymore. Now websites are ranked on the search engines according to their merits. Reciprocal link exchange is not a good process from the search engine's point of view. Most of the search engines ignore the reciprocal links.

Link can be posted along with articles, in forums, during press release and also during directory submission, if and only if the submissions are approved will you get a backlink to your website.
