Last February, the Malaysian Federal Government announced that Wednesday, April 11, 2012, had been declared as a one-off non-working national public holiday throughout Malaysia on the day when the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, will be installed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia). However due to the peculiarities of Malaysia's public holidays legislation, even in the case of national public holidays declarations, the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak must officially declare these national public holidays separately. The Sultan of Kedah, who ascended to the throne on 13 December 2011, will officially be installed as the 14th Yang-di-Pertuan Agong on the public holiday, with an installation ceremony and banquet at Istana Negara (the new national palace on Jalan Duta). A public holiday is commonly declared for the day of installation. This will be the second reign of Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah as monarch, with his first reign being from 1970 to 1975.The role of King is rotated amongst the heads of nine of states of Malaysia, with each reigning for a period of five years after an election process held by a council from the same states. Prior to the 14th Yang-di-Pertuan Agong, the throne was held by Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, sultan of Terengganu. This important event will precede Edgar Perez's The Speed Traders Workshop 2012 Kuala Lumpur: How High Frequency Traders Leverage Profitable Strategies to Find Alpha in Equities, Options, Futures and FX, April 12th.
