Slaughtering The Market So Far

|Includes: Apple Inc. (AAPL), AET, AFL, DELL, NOV, PHO

I've written five articles up to this point, each recommending this stock. This article is a recap of each stock's performance to this point, and my plans for future articles.

Past Performance:

Overall I'm proud of my performance, as my picks have outperformed the market by an average of 7.1% in just a few months since they were published. The individual results can be seen on the table below.

Change in Stock Change in SPY
DELL +38.76% 9.92%
NOV +3.1% +11.12%
PHO +11.47% +9.28%
AFL +15.53% +6.77%
AET +9.02% +5.87%

My first pick was Dell (DELL), which I have sold since writing the original article (which can be found here). I still think the stock is undervalued, but it is trading at a similar multiple to some other tech companies which I think would yield better returns (NASDAQ:AAPL).

Sentiment: Sell

My second pick was National Oilwell Varco (NYSE:NOV). I think it is ready for a strong run if the market can stay strong. Income has continued to rise and the stock is trading at an attractive P/E of 11.71, which is lower than when I last wrote it off. My last article on the company can be found here.

Sentiment: Hold

My third article was more about the global water shortage than any one company, but I did mention the ETF: Powershares Water Resources Portfolio (NASDAQ:PHO). My thesis on this global trend is very long term, and nothing has changed in the last three months. My last article can be found here.

Sentiment: Hold

My fourth article was about Aflac (NYSE:AFL). The company still looks very cheap to me, and nothing from my original article has changed. If you bought it on the pullback after my last article, you would be up even more than I am on the trade. The article can be found here if you want to read it.

Sentiment: Hold

My most recent article was on the healthcare provider Aetna Inc. (NYSE:AET). The companies earnings were slightly below where I had hoped for the last quarter, but I nothing fundamentally has changed. I sold my shares, but only because I needed the liquidity for other operations. My article can be found here.

Sentiment: Hold

Future Articles:

I will write more articles in the near future. If you have a company you would like me to write up, send me a message with the company and your thesis, and I will give you my opinion when I have the time.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article.
