American Video Teleconferencing Corp. (PINK:AVOT) is pleased to announce that it has hired a French speaking geologist to search the archives of the Quebec Department of Mines for Rare Earths showings not on a current computer file. Rare-Earth elements are being used in most technologies, as well as magnets for wind generators, hybrid-car batteries, fluorescent lightbulbs, and hard disk drives.
Rare-Earth elements are not that rare; the U.S. has plenty of the metals that are critical to many green-energy technologies, but engineering and R&D expertise have moved overseas; responding to China’s near monopoly, companies in the United States and Australia are ramping up production at two rich sites for rare earths, but the process will take years. American Video believes the rare earths industry is where it wants to maintain a very strong focus and is looking to expand its holdings. Rare earths are necessary components of future energy technologies and important to greenhouse gas abatement strategies. They also have been called the vitamins of the electronics industry. They are the essential ingredients for making products smaller, faster and smarter and their demand is increasing as our desire for technological advancement continues.
In fact, demand for rare earths currently outstrips supply, particularly from major product manufacturers in Japan and the USA. As neither the Federal nor Quebec Governments have carried out any air borne surveys in this area, American Video will seek a contractor to do an air borne Mag-EM radiometric survey. This survey will cover its present holdings and the immediate surrounding area looking for future acquisitions. Exploration and assessment expenditures amounted to $385M in 2007. The chances of new discoveries remain excellent. Furthermore, Québec is blessed with a vast landmass which, outside of mining districts, remains little or virtually unexplored.
American Video is pleased to be working in the Province of Quebec as it is rated the number one jurisdiction in the world to carry out mineral exploration. The Quebec Government gives a rebate up to 45% for property expenditures. Exploration conducted by mining stakeholders, both public and private, has led to the discovery of several sizable ore deposits in Québec, many of which are considered world-class, namely the Horne, Gaspé Copper, Selbaie (former producers) and LaRonde mines for base metals, and the Doyon and Sigma-Lamaque mines for gold. Thus, Québec has seen several major staking rushes over the past few years. In the Monts Otish area, following the announcement of the discovery of diamond-bearing kimberlites; in the Ungava Trough, following the announcement of a Ni-Cu-PGE discovery associated with ultramafic units to the south of the Raglan mine; and in the Réservoir Opinaca area, in the Baie-James region, following the announcement of gold mineralization in quartz veins cross-cutting sedimentary rocks.
ArQule Inc. (Nasdaq:ARQL) announced the commencement of patient dosing in a Phase 1 clinical trial with ARQ 736, a small molecule inhibitor of the RAF kinases. ARQ 736 is an ATP-competitive pan-RAF kinase inhibitor discovered and developed at ArQule. This compound has been shown pre-clinically to be a potent inhibitor of mutant BRAF (V600E), wild-type BRAF and c-RAF.
ArQule, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company, engages in the research and development of cancer therapeutics directed toward molecular targets and biological processes.
Orofino Gold Corp, (ORFG.PK) is a China based gold producer with one producing gold mine in Colombia and an option on a strong portfolio of small producers and development/exploration assets in Colombia. Orofino Gold was founded as a private company in 2009 by former executives and management with over 50 years of combined mining exploration, finance and development experience. Orofino’s corporate objective is to continue to build shareholder value through the exploration and development of existing projects and additional accretive acquisitions, capitalizing on the extensive experience and relationships that management has developed over the past 25 years. Orofino Gold Corp. is a US (Nevada) company established for the purpose of creating a significant exploration and mining group to operate in Colombia. Orofino has major criteria by which they select properties that include: Significant historical production; Favorable geology for hosting major ore bodies; Significant property area for large target exploration; Recent results available; Favorable infrastructure and access to allow mine development; and Receptive local government and populace.
In addition, Orofino has acquired a database comprised of exploration and mining results from previous operators who left when the global mining sector experienced a major downturn in the three year period from 1997-2000. A total of 165,000 tonnes of gold have been mined in human history, as of 2009. This is roughly equivalent to 5.3 billion troy ounces or, in terms of volume, about 8,500 m³, or a cube 20.4 m on a side. The world consumption of new gold produced is about 50% in jewelry, 40% in investments, and 10% in industry. It is known to all that the primary use of gold is associated to jewelry. About 78% of the gold consumed each year goes in the manufacture of different jewelry products. Although primarily used as a store of value, gold has many modern industrial uses including dentistry and electronics. Gold has traditionally found use because of its good resistance to oxidative corrosion and excellent quality as a conductor of electricity.
The second part of Orofino Gold’s strategy to become a recognized player in the Colombia mining sector was the acquisition of an interest in an operating mine. Orofino Gold has acquired a 55% interest in the La Azul/La Estrella property with the rights to acquire up to 80%. Information on La (Mina) Azul/La Estrella mine include: assays of copper-gold samples ran in excess of 40g/t gold, and contain up to 8% copper, bornite and cholcopyrite; the interpretation and the prospectivity of this concession has been confirmed by an Orofino Qualified Person (as described by the 43-101 compliant standard); the area is the site of economic mining activity and it is unlikely that the true grade of gold mineralization has been determined by the crude benefication methods employed by the resident miners; and the existing process of using mercury amalgamation to collect the free gold after grinding, followed by cyanide leach of the crushed material would not, for example, liberate gold tied up in the sulphides.
