848 Tons of Explosives Go Missing in India

Reported by: Emon, CRWE Newswire Middle East Correspondent

Police in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh cannot determine the location of a cargo of explosives sent from a factory in neighboring Rajasthan.

According to police, the factory in Rajasthan sent 164 trucks loaded with explosives and detonators into Madhya Pradesh but did not reach its final destination. Authorities estimate that the cargo held approximately 848 tons of explosives.

Police say they suspect the involvement of illegal mining outfits, but one officer said that there is always the possibility that some explosives might have been sold on to militants.

So far two people have already been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of the explosives, and another five suspected kidnappers are being sought for questioning.
