Social Media gets Examination

In The Wall Street Journal, by Jessica E. Vascellaro (News Sites Study Social Media), Sept. 17, 2010 ({MP} pg. B6). Major print media publishers are investigating the reading behaviors of social media users on such sites as Twitter Inc. and Facebook Inc. Companies are aggressively trying to determine what types of stories social media users actually read verse users that simply browse titles. To help with data collection, publishers have hired companies that specialize in disseminating polls and surveys to determine the best times to release certain stories through social media sites.
