As we begin a new week Bitcoin (BTC) is going strong, having finally passed a $10,000 trading price. According to data from CoinMarketCap, the flagship cryptocurrency broke the $10K barrier late last night and has since climbed to a trading price of about $10,330, at press time. filbfilb, a Cointelegraph Markets analyst, compared Bitcoin’s behaviour to that of gold and silver:
“Briefly on traditional markets; Gold and Silver are continuing to rip higher as well as Bond Yield making new lows, while the USD continues to lose ground.”
“Indices overall are sat looking a little precarious after last week's sell off towards the end of the week. Will need to keep an eye on that but Bitcoin seems to be behaving more akin to Gold and Silver than equities at the moment.”
Though some analysts are projecting further growth in the near term, particularly if a support level of $10,500 is reached soon, a recent tweet from crypto critic and goldbug Peter Schiff speculates an impending drop:
Two of the last three times#Bitcoin rose above $10,000 in Oct. of 2019 and in Feb. of 2020 it soon fell by 38% and 63% respectively. The last time Bitcoin rose above $10,000 was in May, and it only fell by 15%. It's above $10,000 again today. How big will the next drop be?
Ripple’s Director of Product, Craig DeWitt, has announced the beta launch of peer-to-peer payments platform Payburner. Payburner “enables instant, global peer-to-peer payments,” using the XRP currency and working as a plug-in supported on Brave and Chrome browsers. An excerpt from the announcement reads:
