Gold Is Always Best (Except When It Isn't)!!

|Includes: iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (IBB)

I have a friend who is a true gold believer. He tells me it's always the right time to invest in gold.

In contrast, I have been more interested in biotech stocks during the past 10 years.

Let's compare Gold prices $US for the past 10 years compared to the S&P 500 (NYSEARCA:SPY) and the IShares Nasdaq Biotechnology Index (NASDAQ:IBB) as well as some other longer term charts.

I will ignore the fact that Gold was dead money for more than 21 years from about 1979 to 2000. See chart below.

Let's simply look at the comparative performance of Gold ($US), the S&P 500 and the IBB over the past 10 years.

IBB is the clear winner! Gold ($US) has risen approximately 95% over the past 10 years, while the IBB has risen by nearly 280%.
