I just posted a wrap up of the Q1 performance of the Value Stock Guide portfolio on my site. Bottomline is that we were up 15.18% in Q1 which compares quite nicely with S&P 500 that was up 12%. This excludes dividends. Since the portfolio is now becoming quite heavy with dividend paying stocks, I wouldn't be surprised that the margin of outperformance was larger if dividends were included.
Volatility has played a part in the Q1 performance. As my readers would remember, we were out performing SP500 by over 8% at the end of January, which admittedly is a short time frame to judge a portfolio by. However, we did take profits on some stocks which had appreciated handsomely and redeployed capital in new names. As a result, we are now well positioned for the future.
