The 12th consecutive number 1 opening for Disney's Pixar "Cars 2" shows the continuing demand for the product. The movie opened across the world netting $68 million domestically and an additional 42.9 million globally , not including Sunday's results. IMAX corporation strongly helped the global sales as it netted $3.25 million in sales on 150 screens giving an average of $21,666 per screen. That number alone is about 30% more than what the average domestic screen brought in $16,525.
On the docket for IMAX the next few weeks is the release of Transformers 3 "Dark Side of the Moon" comes out EXCLUSIVELY in 146 IMAX theaters tomorrow Tuesday June 28th, and an additional 117 theaters globally this weekend. The sentiment behind the movie is pre-ticket sales are off the charts for IMAX showings.
The next film after Transformers to hit the IMAX theaters, is the awe inspiring finale to the most popular series, possible of all time, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 2. The pre ticket sales for IMAX theaters have reportedly been off the charts for this movie as well.
With the increasing number of IMAX theaters 528, to date as of March 31, 2011, sets up IMAX for its biggest most profitable month ever.
