No Free Lunch

  • StW doesn’t have a free trial period.
  • We want to protect our IP for our members.
  • So what can we share with outsiders?

A plate of food Description automatically generated with medium confidenceI’m hardly the most credible opponent of free lunches. All I want is reward free of commensurate risk – a freeroll, a mismarked offer, an upside that I don’t have to pay for. For years, my home was on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in a short walk from my office in an old building on the corner of 57th and Madison. Each morning at the same time, I nipped through the northeast lobby of the hotel next door at exactly the same time as they were rolling out fresh coffee and muffins – a mixture of cornbread and blueberry – and exited through the southwest lobby next to my office’s door. Each morning, I grabbed one of each and was on my way. After a few years of this routine, I was heading through the lobby at the crack of dawn when someone took a firm hold of my forearm from behind with a grave, “I’m sorry, sir”. My fear was instantly that the word was being used in the Homer Simpson “Sir, you’re making a scene” usage and I was about to be called to task as a freeloader. I turned to see a chef in full white regalia, hat and all. “I’m so sorry,” he continued. (Ugh this will be bad, I thought). “I am running a few minutes behind and I know how much you like the muffins, can you wait just a moment while they finish in the oven. Someone can run them right over”. (Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and/or Bill Gates: if you read this, I plead guilty to being several years into your pocket in coffee and muffins and will make a donation to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to make you whole).

But however deeply I love free breakfasts, there are no free lunches at Sifting the World. We try to protect our intellectual property and are not looking to grow membership at the expense of that IP. So what can I (and fellow members) share with outsiders? We have recently gotten a flood of interest from potential members. Here is what they can get to help inform their decision:

  • StW Guide This is a public version of our community’s outline.
  • StW Review This is the latest review; here are all the others.
  • SPAC Focus This is an earlier copy of our weekly publication on SPACs.
  • Annual best idea This is our previous annual best idea.

In addition to those resources, I wrote over a thousand free blog posts for the general public. If you read them and still can’t make up your mind one way or the other, than I recommend just buying the S&P 500 (SPY) and finding a job or hobby less demanding upon one’s decisiveness. Meanwhile, welcome to all the new members; I hope and expect our future will be long, lucrative, and fun.
