Summary
- Happy (belated) Hanukkah.
- Wishing you and your family happy holidays.
- Here’s to peace and prosperity.
This time of year, I leave it to the Virgin Mary, Santa Claus, and Amazon (AMZN) to rush across the country to deliver on Christmas. I’m staying put at work, at least for now. After Christmas, I’m traveling a bit for some ice climbing and skinning. If all goes well, this time next year I’ll be in Antarctica, so I need to spend a bit of time in the Adirondacks and Maine honing my cold weather skills and shaking out my cold weather gear.
I hope that you are with the ones you love. I hope that you are at peace and enjoying prosperity. I hope that you get in some travel and adventure. In a recent piece, I singled out my favorite idea generators – Raper Capital’s Jeremy Raper, 507 Capital’s Thomas Braziel, Praetorian Capital’s Harris Kupperman, and Rangeley Capital’s Andrew Walker – and particularly hope that they are enjoying the culmination of this year. From the looks of things in Napa, Italy, and Azores, they are!
Our tree is up, our lights are lit, a huge wreath hangs from the balcony outside of my office. Family has gathered from near and as far as Australia to eat my food, drink my wine, and distract me from what I’m working on. I’m wishing that I had saved my old positive Covid test to preserve some optionality surrounding endless social gatherings, but this too shall pass. As usual, my happiest moments of this season have been on the trails with my running club and at the gym with my CrossFit friends; they too are family.
Take a second to comment on where you are and what you’re up to over the holidays. Finally, again this year, I have only one thing on my Christmas list (alas my kids’ lists are… somewhat more involved): a gift to Watsi. This year I’m focused on healthcare for kids in Tanzania where I’ll be traveling in just a few months. Please give what you can. Please give something. I want to maximally help the worthy beneficiaries. It is a great feeling to know that there are other people who care and are willing to do something.
