U.S. Still the World's Largest Manufacturer

Helen Wang has an interesting article at helenhwang.net.  According to the U.N., the U.S. far out produces number two China.  Of course, labor intensive manufacturing has left the U.S. so employment in manufacturing has declined sharply even as manufacturing output has continued to rise over the past two decades.

Chinese manufacturing output has been rising faster than the U.S.  If this continues then China will surpass the U.S. in manufacturing output in the coming years.  But it will come as a surprise to many that it will be several more years before that happens.  Most Americans probably think it has already happened.
