Bundesbank chief (and ECB member) Jens Weidmann flatly rejects calls for massive intervention into debt markets of troubled EU states, asking instead for governments to fix the mess they created. He also notes such "monetary financing" of governments is illegal. "I cannot see how you can ensure the stability of a monetary union by violating its legal provisions. I don't see how you can build trust in a system that violates laws." Quaint thoughts.
