Andreas Georgiou, who was brought in to lead Greece's new independent statistics agency, is facing a criminal investigation and possible life imprisonment for allegedly "betraying the country’s interests." His crime? Revising up Greece's 2009 budget deficit figure to 15.8% of GDP from 13.4%, a revision accepted without reservation by Eurostat.
