Google (GOOG), which reportedly tried to buy mobile reader app developer Flipboard last year, is launching a rival product it calls Currents. The product differs from Flipboard in its focus on news sources rather than Facebook/Twitter links, and features tight Google+ integration. However, Currents faces competition not only from Flipboard, but from many other reader apps, including Taptu, Pulse, and Yahoo's (YHOO) Livestand. (previously)
