It turns out "firing" Ben Bernanke isn't quite as easy as Newt Gingrich makes it out to sound on the campaign stump. The American Spectator unearthed that a President Gingrich would only have two avenues to follow through on that campaign pledge: (1) Initiate legal action against Bernanke via The Federal Reserve Act stipulation that a governor can only removed for cause for some sort of malfeasance; (2) amend the Federal Reserve Act with the help of Congress to allow presidents to fire the Fed chairman at their discretion.
