Market recap: Stocks continued their slow but steady march after firm readings on jobs and manufacturing (I, II). Led by financials, the S&P 500 closed above 1,400 for the first time since June 2008. Oil futures recouped most of their early losses after a report that the U.S. and U.K. would release strategic oil reserves was denied. The dollar gave back some recent gains. NYSE gainers led losers two to one.
