Nielsen offers its latest update on the U.S. smartphone market, noting that nearly half of mobile subscribers owned smartphones as of February, up from 38% from a year ago. Android (GOOG) owns 48% of the installed base and also tallied 48% of new purchases from December-February. The iPhone (AAPL) totaled 43% of new buyers while comprising only 32% of the installed base.
