Telus (TU -0.7%) says it's acquired licenses for 40 MHz of wireless spectrum in Canada's 2500 MHz auction that cover every region in the country, boosting data capacity that should strengthen the company's offering in urban areas.
The company bid $479M on the spectrum and will fund it through existing credit. Canada's use-it-or-lose-it approach means Telus will need to put the capacity to work quickly.
The 2500-MHz spectrum is better suited to heavy data coverage and Telus says it will complement its low-band coverage that is better suited for building penetration and rural areas.
