Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU) has signed a letter of intent with contract manufacturer Flextronics (NASDAQ:FLEX) to transfer an optical transport hardware manufacturing plant located in Trieste, Italy. Terms are undisclosed.
The plant will continue to make optical transport gear for Alcatel. Reuters reported last month (at the time the Nokia merger was announced) Alcatel is in talks to sell the manufacturing arm of its Shanghai Bell Chinese JV to Flextronics.
Alcatel has already shed plenty of assets over the last few years as part of the company's attempts to narrow its product focus and strengthen its balance sheet.
