- Vodacom (OTCPK:VDMCY +0.1%) saw profits rise in its latest six months with the help of increasing data revenues, and it's making plans to further expand in that area, including video-on-demand service.
- “We’re becoming more of an Internet company,” CEO Shameel Joosub told Bloomberg.
- Adjusted EPS was up 6% to 4.40 rand (about $0.31). Active customers grew 6.8%, to 65.1M.
- It plans to expand a music-streaming partnership with Deezer into new markets, and it's in talks about deploying video on demand across Africa.
- As for competitors Telkom and Cell C getting together to present a greater threat to Vodacom and MTN Group, Joosub says it "could be a credible tie-up."
