Under Armour (UA -2.8%) is entering the 3D printing game with a limited run of the UA Architech trainer shoe. Rivals Nike and Adidas are also active with 3D printing initiatives.
RetailDive observes that the athletic shoe sector is "conducive" to the 3D printing concept due to the customization required for meeting the shoe needs of consumers.
The ability to make and test shoe prototypes in record time and shorten the supply chain process are also seen as positive factors for the 3D printed shoe concept.
The UA Architech goes on sale on March 18 with a list price of $299.99.
