No springtime letdown for Fiat Chrysler in the U.S.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (NYSE:FCAU) recorded its best April in the U.S. in 11 years off of more strength in the SUV and pickup categories. The 6% gain in sales come off of a strong results last year.

Brand sales growth: Fiat -24% to 3,422; Chrysler -18% to 22,843; Jeep +17% to 84,298; Dodge -3% to 43,575; Ram +12% to 45,810; Alfa Romeo 60.

Model standouts: Compass +128% to 9,421 units; Renegade +131% to 9,730 units; Ram P/U +8% to 41,079; ProMaster Van +61% to 2,835; Durango +17% to 6,434 units; Dodge Caravan +116% to 13,203 units.

The automaker says it ended the month with 84 days supply of inventory vs. 82 days in March.
