Two suspected hijackers of a Afriqiyah Airways airliner with 111 passengers aboard have threatened to blow up the plane on the runway at the international airport in Malta.

The Airbus A320 (OTCPK:EADSY) landed at Luqa airport at 5:30 a.m. ET. A negotiating team is in contact with the hijackers.

All Libyan carriers are currently banned from flying to the European Union under the bloc's so-called aviation safety blacklist.
