- Nokia (NYSE:NOK) has been chosen by a new Mexican telecom to build and operate a new nationwide LTE network, its biggest-ever contract win by scale in Latin America.
- ALTÁN Redes, a new wholesale carrier with international and Mexican backing, has chosen Nokia to deploy the network in the "Red Compartida" public-private project, which is expected to draw more than $7B in investment over nine years.
- The result will be a new LTE and 5G-ready network that will offer wireless broadband to 92% of the country's population. It'll be deployed in five of nine regions in Mexico.
- Using the 700 MHz band, the network will need fewer sites to provide wide coverage, offering operational efficiencies.
