Rambus (RMBS +1.5%) says it's expanding last year's collaboration with Microsoft (MSFT +0.8%) on optimization of cryogenic memory.

The two first began work on the project in December 2015 and have been pursuing improving energy efficiency for DRAM and logic operation at very low temperatures, under -292 degrees Fahrenheit (93.15 K, or -180 degrees Celsius).

A breakthrough there would be ideal for high-performance supercomputers and the advent of "quantum computing."
