Enbridge eyes restart for Gulf of Mexico gas pipeline next month

Enbridge (NYSE:ENB) says its 1B cf/day Garden Banks offshore natural gas pipeline could begin restarting operations for some producers in February, about three months after the line was shut due to a fire on a Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

ENB has notified customers that its work to separate the pipeline from Shell’s fire-damaged Enchilada platform would be completed early next month barring "unforeseen circumstances."

The fire halted production at Shell’s Enchilada and Salsa platforms, and Hess’s (NYSE:HES) Baldpate platform, while the pipeline closure also led to shutting output at Hess’s Baldpate, Conger and Penn State fields, and the Shell-operated Llano field; it is not yet clear when those platforms could return to service.
