The State Department says it approved the possible sale of 34 Lockheed Martin's (NYSE:LMT) F-35 jets for $6.53B to Belgium, a potential new customer for the company’s key product.

The proposed sale would include 34 conventional takeoff F-35s as well as 38 Pratt & Whitney (NYSE:UTX) F-135 engines and other equipment for the radar-evading fighter, the Pentagon says.

The governments of Finland, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, the UAE and others also are considering a purchase of the jet as potential new customers.
