Sony (NYSE:SNE) said Friday that Kazuo Hirai will step down from his CEO role in April after six years on the job and assume a chairman position at the company.

Taking the reins as chief executive will be current Sony CFO Kenichiro Yoshida, who will in turn be replaced by mobile unit head Hiroki Totoki.

Separately on Friday, Sony also announced a big year-over-year earnings climb for the fiscal third quarter, mainly due to the lack of an impairment charge seen in the previous year. The company also reported higher revenue for the quarter and raised its guidance for the full year.

Sony was recently up 0.9% in premarket trading.
