CNBC: Comcast may consider topping Disney bid for Fox assets

Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) might consider topping Disney's (NYSE:DIS) $52B bid for the media assets of Twenty-First Century Fox (FOX, FOXA), CNBC says citing people familiar with the matter.

That's one of several possible ripples from the government's opposition to AT&T's (NYSE:T) $85B takeover of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX), Alex Sherman writes.

Comcast shares have tumbled, down 2% from near flat. Disney is 1.3% lower; Fox has jumped into positive ground: FOX +0.8%, FOXA +0.8%.

Disney is already preparing itself and considering responses to a Comcast topping bid, the report says. Rupert Murdoch wanted to sell to Disney in part due to regulatory concerns with a company like Comcast, but a premium offer could convince enough Fox shareholders to vote against Murdoch, whose family owns just 17% of all outstanding shares.

With the Trump administration's opposition to the AT&T/Time Warner deal clogging possibilities for legacy media, Sherman writes, the FAANGs are free to run wild on content fed by their rising growth.
