Restaurant same-store sales dipped 0.3% in January, according to data from TDn2K.

Traffic was down 3.0% during the month as a calendar shift of the New Year's day holiday and severe winter storms in key regions impacted results.

Average guest check was up almost 3.0%, led by a notable jump in the casual dining segment. Promotions in the fast-casual segment kept pricing growth below the industry average.

What to watch: TDn2K notes that restaurant operators are citing turnover with hourly employees and management as a major concern this year with the U.S. economy nearing full employment.
