Fatal accident reported at Sibanye's Driefontein mine in South Africa

South Africa’s NUM union says a miner was killed by falling rocks at Sibanye-Stillwater’s (NYSE:SBGL) Driefontein gold mine, where seven workers died last month in a cave-in following a seismic event.

SBGL, whose stock price plunged 28% in May, noted yesterday that “recent safety incidents” were among investor concerns.

Just last week, another mineworkers union accused SBGL of knowingly placing its employees at risk in unsafe conditions underground.
